This review is being presented as they were originally written, grammatical errors, shitty sentence structure, and typos galore. Because to do otherwise would be that same as claiming these flaws never existed.
STORYLINE: Minions begins at the dawn of time. Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters - from T. rex to Napoleon - the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression. But one Minion named Kevin has a plan, and he - alongside teen-age rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob - ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow. The trio embarks upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill (Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock), the world's first supervillainess ever. They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in modern London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind...from annihilation.
3D: Illumination Entertainment is an animation studio that knows how to use their 3D. Despicable Me 2 is by far the best 3D film I've ever seen (yes even better 3D than Gravity). Minions unfortunately doesn't go to the 3D heights of the Despicable Me movies, but manages to use it well. There are a lot of pop up hings including the weapons and characters than the set pieces itself.
REVIEW: Well as much as I was looking forward to a Minions movie, it was everything I wish it was. Somehow....it manages to be less of the film I thought it will be. Of course the Minions are the best part of the film. Kevin, Bob, and Stuart all have different personalities to love and you can get that from the 10 minute mark. What this movie does is prove that Minions can hold a movie on their own, but if they had better human characters around them, their feature film would've been amazing. The voice cast specifically Bullock and Hamm are having fun with their characters, but they're underdeveloped as hell. Hamm is just a goofball trying to be evil and Bullock is either too nice or too villainous. There's a point where I'm in the theater thinking that Scarlet Overkill is bipolar. The settings have a lot of detail and since this film was set in the sixties, it takes advantage of both the soundtrack and humor. The humor is basically random dance sequences, slapstick, and most of all visual gags. 70%of the humor works, and then the others just fall hard. The story goes all over the place where the last 30 minutes goes into generic animated battle territory. It's like Shrek 2 in London, but it is badass.
LAST STATEMENT: Though the humor hits hard and feature main characters with personality Minions prove that they can barely hold their own movie with undeveloped side characters and rather a generic third act.
