The Infiltrator Review

There isn't much behind this film I knew about prior than this being based on a true story. Besides that, I remember seeing the trailer before a youtube video and being wildly interested in the film. You have the director of the Lincoln Lawyer (a film that made us love Matthew McConaughey again) working with now Academy Award Nominated Bryan Cranston. How better can you get?

During the 1980s, U.S. Customs Service special agent Robert Mazur uses his undercover alias "Bob Musella" to become a pivotal player for drug lords cleaning their dirty cash. Later, he infiltrates the world's largest cartels and helps discover the money-laundering organization of drug lord Pablo Escobar, and take down Bank of Credit and Commerce International (one of the top ten private banks in the world at the time) which had secretly taken illegal ownership of First American Bankshares in Washington DC.

With The Infiltrator you have Cranston as this undercover detective whose work life gets in his way with his home life and you see that from a very strong introduction to the movie. But in the situation that Robert Mazur gets into, you feel that every movement he makes may or may not endanger his life.

The cast in the film is great and all pull their own weight, mainly from performances by Bryan Cranston and John Leguizamo. Its good to see them interact together in scenes because they're very different in character, but there isn't much of that. It is also good to see Leguizamo not get Sean Beaned in this film, because if he dies in one more film I see, I will put him as the new Sean Bean.

The movie itself is good. The Infiltraitor is a good movie. The direction from Brad Furman  is great where there are some fun tracking shots that are impressive. If it wasn't for the fact the story wasn't so similar to every other crime drama in the 90s, this film would've been more of a recommendation. Picture this as a Goodfellas with Bryan Cranston. That's it. There isn't much to say about this film, because it is not that memorable. It is a good movie, but it's nothing to say OH MY GOD YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS

With outstanding performances from the entire cast and great stylistic direction from Brad Furman, The Infiltrator's run of the mill narrative takes the spice away from what was to be a great movie and only makes it a good one.
