Editor’s Note: This review was originally published during my adolescence. Outdated language might be seen in these old posts. Since then, my thoughts and values have grown. This review is being presented as they were originally written, grammatical errors, shitty sentence structure, and typos galore. Because to do otherwise would be that same as claiming these flaws never existed.
BACKSTORY: Monday July 27th I had my own personal adventure as I had my friend wait on line since 8 in the morning while I was at work. By the time I got there they put us in the middle of time square pushed together like a bunch of crowded sheep. They had us by the premiere camera and nearly 300 people surrounding the pens to get pictures. Of course I got mine, but holy shit the people behind me were worse. MORE IN BACKSTORY
STORYLINE: Ethan and team take on their most impossible mission yet, eradicating the Syndicate - an International rogue organization as highly skilled as they are, committed to destroying the IMF.
REVIEW: Sometimes I wonder how can an action franchise can last for so long and not have even one shitty film? There were several bad Fast and Furious films before they got better. Die hard got worse by the time we got to #4, and Transformers...well fuck that franchise. The only great action movie franchise that never limits itself will be the Mission Impossible films and that's no exception with Rouge Nation. What can you say, Tom Cruise is a badass motherfucker. As he gets older its as he gets more flexible with doing his own stunts especially running. Seriously why can't we just have him run for America in the next Olympics? It's unbelievable that he can do all this crazy shit and have Christopher McQuarrie direct us another badass Tom Cruise movie (first being Jack Reacher). Yeah the fourth film was the no Tom in Team Mission Impossible film, but this time its more of a Cruise/Pegg buddy spy film. What makes this very film very exceptional is that the story you can see is inspired. Through all the crazy and phenomenal action scenes there are, there is a smart story. It may be scattered with scenes with Cruise, Ferguson, and Pegg and then cutting to Renner and Rhames but it does come together. Where we have the scandal of Edward Snowden and stuff, just like Captain America The Winter Soldier, Rouge Nation takes influence from that to integrate it with their story. The IMF HAS BECOME THE NSA AND ITS INTENSE! Its awesome how every different action scene is significantly different and never result into retread. The film has a consistent tone and when it gets dark, it rightfully transcends into the dark. The villain is weak, the movie starts to putter out its gas towards the end, and some of the humor is hit or miss. It's so damn easy to overlook them, because of how much fun you have when watching it. Do yourself a favor, watch this in IMAX! Every second feels as if you're with Ethan Hunt taking down bad guys on the road. The big scale adventure should be seen only on a big scale screen.
LAST STATEMENT: At age 53, in his 5th film in the most successful franchises, Tom Cruise proves he's still badass and can carry an entire film especially with the stunts he play with and the cast that surrounds him. McQuarrie and Cruise together makes Mission Impossible Rouge Nation the best spy action films since Skyfall.
